With the core of AFA’s existence based on serving people, we are proud of our
history of helping to make a difference in the communities in which we do business.
2006 was a great year for the company, but we, and the community as a whole, saw a
great ally pass away. American Fidelity’s president, John Rex, dedicated much
of his everyday efforts to helping raise awareness and support for community efforts.
Though he leaves behind a great deal of sadness for those who knew him, the life he
led was an example to all.
Celebrating our fourth year on Fortune magazine’s list of the “100
Best Companies to Work For,” we continue to make ourselves known in the community
through a variety of efforts. By generously contributing their time, talent and
money, Colleagues make corporate citizenship an integral part of what makes us a
great place to work.
Annually, American Fidelity participates in two major workplace fund raisers. As
a Pacesetter Company, we help set the tone for the United Way’s fundraising
efforts. Our 2006 Allied Arts campaign set internal records for the highest Colleague
participation and placed AFA in the top five worksite contributors in Oklahoma City.
Colleague commitment extends to board memberships, fund raising efforts,
philanthropic and community action endeavors. These and other activities seek to
strengthen the communities and quality of lives in which we work. Jeans day fundraisers
take place monthly to support causes such as the Make-A-Wish Foundation® and
Free to Live Animal Sanctuary. This year, APL Colleagues gathered donations for the
Food Pantry to help the homeless and area orphanages at Christmas.
Whether it’s AFA’s financial or volunteer support, American Fidelity
Colleagues are always there. This year more than 220 Colleagues, family members and
friends participated in the Komen Foundation’s Race for the Cure supporting the
fight against breast cancer. When the Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) asked American
Fidelity to hold a fourth blood drive due to a summer blood supply shortage,
Colleagues answered the call with overwhelming support. Because of this dedication,
American Fidelity is now a charter member of OBI’s Leadership Alliance.
With our roots firmly planted in the belief of being there when people need us
and because of leadership taught to us by John Rex, AFA will continue to honor his
legacy by remembering there is always time to lend a hand. |
