Our Roots Our Accomplishments Our Future
American Public Life (APL), headquartered in Jackson, Mississippi, has been a member of the American Fidelity family since May of 2000. With 72 Colleagues, APL provides voluntary supplemental insurance for thousands of employees of commercial businesses, city governments, county and parish governments, state governments and school systems.

Originally founded in 1945, APL has developed a reputation as a company that is EZ2doBizWith®. Their goal is to protect the financial security of their Customers by asking them to Decide Today to Protect Tomorrow®.

American Public Life offers cancer, specified disease, intensive care and accident insurance plans. A variety of medical supplement plans, disability income plans, several dental plans and whole life insurance round out the Company's extensive offerings. APL is licensed to do business in 48 states, the District of Columbia and Guam.

In 2008, American Public Life continued to focus on its niche market, broker sales in the worksite market.
We concentrated our efforts by adding two new products to our product portfolio.

The first product, MEDlinkIII, is a much more flexible medical supplement plan designed to help contain employees' out-of-pocket expenses. Second, APL's Group Accident Plan provides coverage for expenses related to unexpected accidents. APL continues to pursue the goal of being the state-of-the-art provider of supplemental
health plans for the broker sales market.

In addition, APL greatly reduced expenses in 2008. The Company has all but eliminated the storage of printed sales material by using an on-demand printing process. Also, a higher volume of new business is being received and issued in an electronic format rather than paper applications, which reduces the cost of issuing policies. Finally, APL embraced the Lean continuous improvement methodology. The implementation of two Lean initiatives created savings of about 1,050 Colleague hours, further reducing operating expenses.

In January of 2009, APL launched a new project to create a consolidated brokerage distribution operation for American Fidelity Corporation. This venture will provide value to the enterprise by broadening the portfolio of products available and services provided to brokers. APL will see significant benefits through this consolidated approach that is dedicated to serving the needs of our independent broker partners. By maintaining administrative offices in both Jackson and Oklahoma City, APL is in a strong position to continue to grow profitably, to expand and strengthen broker relationships and to take advantage of opportunities that will present themselves as a result of additional products and capabilities.

APL is continuing efforts to expand its sales territory by filing all newly developed products in all territories,
which now include all states but New York. The Colleagues of APL believe strongly that our EZ2doBizWith® approach will sustain growth into 2010 and beyond. Our tradition of treating our independent agencies and agents as partners will add value to their businesses, our policyholders and our Company.
